Bike/Walk to Work Day Friday, May 15, 2009

2009 Ride and Walk Routes!

Have you ever wanted to Ride your bike to Work but did not know how to get started, how to navigate traffic, what route to use, or even how much time to plan?

Have you thought about Walking to Work but felt it was

too far, too time consuming, too much?

Again this year, experienced walkers and riders have volunteered to lead bike and walk groups along the routes they use several days a week to get to work. You can join them for Bike/Walk to Work Day or in some cases start right away to get comfortable with the route for BW2W Day as well as the summer months!

Walk & Ride Groups, Routes & Descriptions

General information:

  • Bring water, be prepared for weather, wear a helmet.
  • Note that there are bike/walk leaders available for the trip into work, but not for the return trip. If you are uncomfortable riding home alone, e-mail or call your route leader before the 12th to ask if riding or walking back with them is a possibility.
  • Bring this info or a map in case you are separated from the group.
  • The "Map Box" in each description links to a detailed map for each ride/walk. The maps show parking lots, places to get water, and notes about the route. The elevation feature shows you the topography and the mile markers help to plan. For best viewing, click on the "wide-screen view" when the map page opens (expect a brief delay). Many thanks to Eric Cook for this great web resource and to Ned Connell for mapping all the routes for us! To map a new route, go to www.mapmyride.com.
  • If you have questions, please contact the Route Leaders, by May 11th so they have time to respond.
  • Be on time! Leaders leave Promptly at the times listed below.

  • Advance Transit has room for two bikes per bus. If you plan to ride in and use AT for your return home, please have a back-up plan ready in case the bike rack is filled when it pulls up to your stop.
